Counseling Services
Individual, marriage, and family counseling is offered on a graduated fee scale, for adults, adolescents, and children. The multi-denominational, Christian counseling staff is composed of Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Board Certified Substance Abuse Counselors, and Masters or Graduate level counselors working towards licensing. Each has received specialized training in Christian counseling and adhere to the guidelines of ethics and ongoing training required by their respective licensing boards. We believe what distinguishes Christian Counseling from secular counseling is that it is Biblically-based, Christ-centered and Spirit-led.

Dudley Bienvenu

Founder and Director of Bienvenu Counseling Services, Dudley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor, author and workshop presenter. With over 20 years of clinical experience, Dudley specializes in marital counseling and addictive disorders. As a presenter, he regularly speaks at professional conferences, conducts counselor-training workshops and leads educational and enrichment seminars. He has authored four books and has produced over 85 other educational materials sold through the BCS bookstore and website. A native of Southwest Louisiana, he and his wife Michele have two daughters and three grandchildren. Patrick Bowman, MS, LPC, Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor

A Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor, Patrick received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Xavier University in New Orleans and a Masters degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He is a graduate of the Harding School of Biblical Studies in Searcy, Arkansas, he has completed additional graduate courses in the area of Human Development and Family Studies at Cornell University. During his career Patrick has worked at several inpatient psychiatric facilities and as an outpatient counselor at the Tyler Mental Health Center. He has recently completed 13 years of ministerial service at the Riverside Church of Christ in Lafayette, LA. In addition to his part-time work at BCS, Patrick is currently employed as Instructor of Psychology at the University of Louisiana and SLCC. He is also a Spiritual Counselor at the Acadiana Addiction Center and the Acadiana Recovery Center. Patrick has been married 25 years and has three children.

A Licensed Addictions Counselor for the past 25 years, Mike has worked in a variety of milieus including outpatient, residential and hospital based programs, including having directed a number of these programs. A seasoned and gifted counselor with alcoholics, drug addicts and teens, Mike has also presented numerous public, church sponsored and professional seminars on substance abuse, parenting, and communication, including speaking at the International and Regional Conferences of the American Association of Christian Counselors. A Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist, Cheryl received her BS in Nursing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and her Masters in Agency Counseling from Louisiana State University. The decision to become a counselor came while working as the Associate Dean of Students at USL. In an effort to develop skills in working with young adult students, she fell in love with counseling, finished school, and joined Bienvenu Counseling as Dudley’s first staff counselor. Cheryl has continued to study various methods to assist her clients in finding freedom and hope for their lives. Currently, she is pursuing a certification from Ashland Theological Seminary in Formational Prayer Counseling. Besides individual and marriage counseling, she leads groups for women that focus on emotional health and healing. Cheryl and Taylor, her husband of 38 years, have led many marriage seminars and financial management groups. They have two children and three grandchildren.

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Jere has worked as a family counselor for over thirty years. She was recruited by BCS to work with children and their families, but her expertise and experience also enables her to help women and couples who face a variety of challenges. This includes separation and loss issues, sexual abuse, marital problems, substance abuse, school problems, behavior problems, “out-of-control” and struggling teens, and the varied effects of abuse and neglect. Jere has been established as an expert witness in the 15th and 16th Judicial District Court systems and has extensive experience with state and private foster care, child protection, mental health, juvenile justice and school systems. She provides staff and parent training statewide on issues related to caring for foster, adopted and challenging children, and working with families in crisis. Jere’s counseling techniques can include the power of God’s Spirit and Word to change lives. Parents are included in sessions with young children and everyone is engaged in the counseling process. Individually and with a team, Jere leads several weekly groups that encourage spiritual growth and positive family functioning. She’s a wife, mother and leader in her local church.

A Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor, Carol received her BA in Sociology from Louisiana State University and her MA in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Carol has been married to her husband, Danny, for 27 years, and together they have two daughters. Over the years Carol served as Ladies Ministry Administrator, taught many Bible studies including Precepts, and initiated and led Christian-based support groups such as Celebrate Recovery and Conquering Codependency. Carol is certified in Trauma Resolution Therapy, a structured approach to resolving trauma at its source rather than just focusing on symptoms. "God continually had His hand upon me, drawing me and equipping me to become a Christian counselor. The heart and focus of my counseling is a desire to see people freed up to be their authentic selves in order to serve and glorify God. Kristy received a Bachelors degree from Louisiana State University in Family, Child and Consumer Sciences and a Masters degree in Christian Counseling from Life Christian University. Also a certified Temperament Therapist, Kristy is licensed through the National Christian Counseling Association. Past clinical experience includes working for the Sexual Abuse Response Center where she worked with victims and families of sexual abuse and assault as well as educated children on sexual abuse, bullying, drug and alcohol abuse. In addition to having one child of their own, out of their commitment to share God’s love, Kristy and her husband Howard have also adopted one child and assumed full custody of two others through a local child advocate agency. Kristy serves in her church by facilitating groups and teaching Bible studies to groups of women on weekend encounters.

Besides being a professional marriage counselor and a certified school counselor, Alan has over twenty-five years of service in various capacities of Christian ministry. In addition to serving with his wife for 5 years as volunteer staff for Evangel House, a local Teen Challenge facility for girls, Alan believes his service as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, and twenty-plus years of employment as an assistant principal/teacher in private, public, and home school education have helped equip him for the counseling he is now doing at Bienvenu Counseling Services.

Charlotte received her Bachelors from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and her Masters in social work from Louisiana State University. She worked at the Crowley Mental Health Clinic for 12 years as an outpatient counselor. Charlotte continues her education and through Light University, obtaining her certification in Christian counseling. She is a member of Amana Christian Fellowship, participating in bible studies, and has volunteered for over 20 years with Catholic Social Services in areas of adoption. She is currently exploring alternative methods of counseling through canine therapy. Charlotte has found the joy in recognizing what God has done in her life, and is focused on helping others find that freedom, peace, and love in Him.


Melissa Bowen, BA

Having received her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications in1993, Melissa is currently pursuing her Masters in Counselor Education at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Due to graduate in December 2010, she currently sees clients at BCS as a part of her internship under the direct supervision of Dudley Bienvenu, LCSW, BCPCC. In the past, Melissa has served in various capacities of Christian ministry through her church with adults and youth, and through Bible Study Fellowship International. In addition to being a certified Temperament Therapist, Melissa enjoys working with individuals of all ages, including teens and the elderly. Originally from New Orleans, Melissa is married and now gladly calls Lafayette home.
